About the Authors

Tamara (Tammie) Chang, MD, is a board-certified physician in pediatric hematology/oncology, practicing in Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. She is the Medical Director of the MultiCare Provider Wellness Program and Founder and Director of her hospital’s Pediatric Cancer Survivorship Program. She serves as the Washington State Physician Branch President of American Medical Women’s Association (AMWA), and the Program Director of ELEVATE, AMWA’s National Leadership Development Program for Women Physician Attendings.

At a critical time in Tammie’s career, she experienced debilitating burnout. After seeking help, she vowed to support other women physicians to go beyond surviving to thriving.

Tammie earned her bachelor’s degree and medical degree from Brown University and completed a four-year combined internal medicine and pediatrics residency at the University of Massachusetts. She completed her fellowship in pediatric hematology/oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital where she also served on staff as a solid tumor oncologist upon completing her fellowship training.

Tammie is a certified empowerment and leadership coach for early career women physicians. She received her coaching certifications from the Co-Active Training Institute and has additional training and certifications as a John Maxwell Leadership Coach, Trainer, and Speaker; a Gallup CliftonStrengths Coach; and as a Tara Mohr Playing Big Facilitator.

Luisa Duran, MD, is a board-certified endocrinologist.  She understands the added challenges unique to women physicians, given her decade of clinical experience in various high-pressure healthcare environments across the United States. Speaking nationally about clinical practice, she realized how many women physicians share the same challenges. Learning of a colleague's crisis with severe physician burnout and in hearing her young daughter say she wants to “become a physician,” propelled Luisa to collaborate with industry experts to provide solutions and change the future of medicine for women.

She earned her bachelor’s and medical degree from Brown University, and focused on diabetes at the Joslin Diabetes Center with Harvard Medical School. She completed an internal medicine residency training at Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, an affiliate of Stanford University, and a fellowship in endocrinology, nutrition, and metabolism at the University of Washington in Seattle.
